Today's post is about motivation. I get a lot of questions about this from clients over the past 25 years, and it's definitely one that people are thinking about and wanting.
Summary
The truth is everyone has some motivation, at some time, in some context.
Establish a specific context. One of the first questions could be, "in which context would you like to be more motivated?" or "which context do I/you want to access and maintain a resourceful mindset in?"
If you want to change your results and reality, changing your mindset is one of the most powerful ways to do that.
There are a lot of different approaches that we can utilise when someone says "I want to be more motivated". So let me suggest a few of these ideas.
The first thing about motivation, and what could be considered as an idea when someone says "I'm not motivated", is that there's missing information. This is also a digital, 'all or nothing' type categorisation. Like a light switch, it's on or off, black or white - rather than a dimmer switch, where it varies on a spectrum/includes all the colours of the rainbow. The truth is everyone has some motivation, at some time, in some context.
To discover some of the missing information, one of the first questions could be, "in which context would you like to be more motivated?"
Now somebody might say, "I'd like to be more motivated in the gym", or "I'd like to be more motivated in the financial context". So what we're establishing is the context here. This is useful move to make, when we're interacting with our Unconscious Minds.
The reality is, the resource states that we want to experience in any context are primarily created by the Unconscious. To do that more effectively, provide frames for your Unconscious Mind. "When, where, with whom do you want a more resourceful mindset, in which area of your life or situation?"
So when somebody says "I want more motivation", we want to choose the context in which that would that be most helpful. It's not "everywhere", because you don't want motivation while you're sleeping. If you've ever had that state while you're sleeping, it's really annoying right? We don't want to have motivation there, we want to be relaxed, we want to be unconscious right?
So ask yourself, or someone else if you're coaching, "which context do I/you want to access and maintain a resourceful mindset in?"
This provides more information and the parameters for the Unconscious Mind to create a transformation in your mindset. From there, provided it's congruent (agreeable) for your system; the flow on affects of such a change are beneficial, you will experience a range of quality resources (one of which could be motivation, or perhaps a more suitable resource state); you will create a shift in your mindset.
And if you want to change your results and reality, changing your mindset is one of the most powerful ways to do that.
